Help and Support with Domestic & Sexual Abuse in Sheffield

The Helpline is intended to be the starting point for the pathways to safety and support - they can offer initial advice and risk assessment, and help clarify which of the specialist services may best meet someone's needs - for members of the public as well as practitioners.  Tel: 0114 276 0999

Ashiana provides safe, culturally appropriate emergency accommodation and floating support for BME women, and their children, affected by trafficking and sexual exploitation, forced marriage, HBV, including advocacy and empowerment through language classes and volunteering.  Tel: 0114 213 0590

Haven House Project offers 1-1, group work and family sessions for children, young people and their mothers who have been affected by living with domestic abuse in Sheffield, as well as therapeutic paly sessions and support for children and young people living in the local SARAS refuges. Sanctuary Scheme - Sheffield City Council - Housing Solutions  Tel: 273 5142
The Sanctuary Scheme is based within the Council's Housing Solutions team. It improves home security and provides additional support for domestic abuse survivors, helping them to continue living in their own homes, if they want to and it is safe, rather than having to move house. Tel: 0114 241 2766
Sheffield Rape & Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre is a specialist organisation offering free and confidential counselling and support to empower women and girls (13+) who have experienced rape or sexual abuse at any times in their lives.

SARAS combines the refuge services previously offered by Sheffield Women's Aid, Ashiana and Haven House, and offers safe, supportive accommodation across 2 sites for women and their children after escaping domestic and sexual abuse, including forced marriage and 'honour' based violence. Sheffield Women’s Counselling and Therapy Service (SWCTS) is a women-only organisation providing a free, confidential therapy / counselling service for women in Sheffield. Tel: 0114 275 2040
Sheffield Working Women's Opportunities Project is a voluntary organisation based in Sheffield, providing outreach services and an exit project to women working as street sex workers.  Tel: 0114 275 0101

VIDA deliver specialist therapeutic services to women and girls affected by domestic and sexual abuse and trauma, and have a strong reputation for training and awareness raising, and working strategically with partners to bring an end to abuse, and in particular violence against women and girls. Young Women's Housing Project provides safe places to live and specialist support to young women [primarily aged 16-25] to overcome the impacts of sexual abuse and exploitation, and discover new possibilities for their futures.

Sheffield WAVES is a women's voluntary sector forum working to end violence against women and their children, made up of the women's organisations listed above.

Doncaster Women’s Aid is working to end domestic violence against women and children through the provision of advice and support services that empower women to make informed choices about their futures, whether they choose to stay in or leave abusive relationships.  Tel: 01709 830238

Rotherham Rise [formerly Rotherham Women's Refuge] provide a range of support services for women and children who have been affected by domestic violence and abuse, including Child Sexual Exploitation. Tel: 01709 307327
The ISIS, Sexual Assault Referral Centre providing help and support for victims of Rape and Sexual Assault for all of South Yorkshire, based in Rotherham.
The Crown Prosecution Service's South Yorkshire website explains what they do and how they are striving to improve justice and put the needs of victims and witnesses, and in particular women and girls, at the forefront of their work.

Women's Aid Federation of England (Women's Aid) is the national charity working to end domestic violence against women and their children and provide second tier support to refuges and other DA services. Website includes the Survivors Handbook in a range of languages, and regular briefings on national developments and government initiatives in the domestic abuse arena.

The Men's Advice Line is a confidential helpline for men who experience violence from their partners or ex-partners.
National charity which provides emergency accommodation for women and children and raises awareness of and campaigns against domestic violence. Phoneline: 0845 122 8609
(Choose to stop). Respect is the UK membership association for domestic violence perpetrator programmes and associated support services. They have a helpline for men who are worried about their abusive behaviour towards their partner.
SafeLives [formerly CAADA: Co-ordinated Action Against Domestic Abuse] ~ support and training to promote co-ordinated responses to domestic violence and the expansion of independent advocacy, risk assessment and clear standards. Amnesty International site promoting and defending women's human rights.
Rights of Women are a group of feminist lawyers. They produce resources to empower women to access their legal rights including information on DIY injunctions and specialist advice lines.
The TAR campaign aims to challenge myths about rape and bring out the truth and realities.
Public awareness campaigning resources

A national coalition of individuals and organisations calling on government, public bodies and others to take concerted action to end violence against women.

The Refugee Council produce an information leaflet for refugees and asylum seekers on domestic violence, available in 20 languages on the Refugee Council multilingual website. The leaflet explains what domestic violence is, and how to get help.
