The IDVA Service works primarily with women who are at the highest levels of risk from domestic abuse in the city, and helps them to increase their safety by providing:

  • advocacy and advice around domestic abuse
  • safety planning
  • support through court proceedings
  • signposting to specialist services: housing, legal services, refuge provision and home safety services
  • a voice in the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) process

Young Happy Woman with city backgroundIDVAS Advocates support women, and occasionally men assessed as high risk, to take steps to reduce their risk levels and to hold perpetrators to account through the Police, Probation and legal or other remedies.
If someone is identified as high risk they are referred to a Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) where all the agencies working with the people involved can share information and develop action plans to help keep victims and their children safe and manage the risks posed by perpetrators. IDVAS are heavily involved in the MARAC process.

The IDVAS team continue to be co-located with the Sheffield Helpline for domestic and sexual abuse, and the Police Safeguarding Adults Team.
