About VIDA

vida is a Sheffield voluntary sector organisation offering specialist services and training to work towards our vision of life without domestic and sexual abuse. We work from a gender perspective as domestic and sexual abuse is overwhelmingly perpetrated by men, and targeted at women and girls, or happens disproprtionately to them. Men can also be affected by abuse, from male or female partners or other family members.

Until July 2011 our organisation was known as Sheffield Domestic Abuse Forum. As a voluntary sector partner we decided to change our name to avoid confusion created by the 'Forum' term, and chose Vida, because it means 'life' in Spanish - a positive affirmation of what we are all about.

vida distinguished our role within partnership working and started a new chapter in our development, sometimes delivering commissioned services, and securing charitable funds to create new and innovative projects. Our organisation has grown from a small group of committed individuals to a well established and respected organisation, involved in the wide range of initiatives described here on our website.

Vida's most recent success has been as lead partner in a new Women & Girls Recovery & Empowerment Partnership securing funding from the Big Lottery Women & Girls Initiative for 4 years 2016-2020. This diagram sets out the details of the 5 key partners in the project: WAGI R&E Partnership Services

We also come together with the women's refuges and other specialist women's organisations in the South Yorkshire VAWG Network, to support each other's work, and form a strong collective voice in strategic work and planning.

You can register with us for email updates about local and national developments in our sector, or contact us to find out more about the work of Vida.
