Vida Sheffield’s Legacy
Vida has been a place of safety, compassion and hope for women and girls whose lives have been affected by domestic and sexual abuse.
A community of women supporting women – all united by the belief that survivors deserve to be heard, believed and given the opportunity to heal.
Vida’s legacy continues:
in the women who found their voices again.
in the women who began to understand that they were never responsible for the abuse they experienced.
in the women who rebuilt their lives.
There is still so much work to be done to ensure that women and girls affected by abuse can access the specialist support they deserve.
We hope that Vida’s legacy will include a continued commitment across Sheffield to protect and sustain those services.
Remember:
You deserve to be safe.
You deserve to be heard.
You deserve a life free from abuse.
And you deserve the opportunity to heal.
Thank you for being part of Vida’s story.

DownloadBefore I Blame Myself and Feel Guilty
Survivors of trauma often feel inappropriate guilt or shame about things they did or did not do. Before you blame yourself for what happened to you, read about the thinking errors that victims of trauma commonly make. If any are familiar, it may be necessary to adjust your thinking.
DownloadGrounding Techniques
It is common to experience intrusive memories of traumatic events. Even though these events happened in the past, when the memories come it can feel as though the events are happening again in the present. This resource provides ways to help you ground yourself back in the safety of the present moment.
DownloadTrauma & Threat System
This leaflet explains the effect of trauma on our brains, helping to show why people respond to domestic and sexual abuse in different ways.
